In 2017 I found my father's old travel diaries from the late 1970s and early 1980s, along with boxes of diapositives. At the time I was going through a depression that lasted for a few years, during which I didn't leave my house very much. In one of his diaries, my father says that according to his friend, you are shaped by your surroundings and if you want to change, you need to move.

"La poétique de l'espace" asks questions about space and about scales: life scales, time scales, geographical scales. What makes a life small? What makes a life "big"? Do you need to travel to be happy? What does traveling mean? What is adventure? Is it different for men than for women? How has the world changed since the early 1980s? What about climate change and the carbon footprint caused by traveling?

"La poétique de l'espace" is also exploring my relationship with my father who died when I was a child. In trying to make sense of these questions, I am trying to find out what separates us and what brings us together.
